Rock Climbing Skills Course, Day Two
Today I was out for day two with David and his two sons Max and Will. Max is a super keen climber and this morning it was time to build on the skills covered yesterday. We headed back to Newton Head for Max to do his first mock lead, as I jugged up beside him and talked through gear placements and tactics. He very competently climbed and protected the route, built a bomb proof belay and brought his dad and up. A second mock lead later, Max was showing that he had gained skills very quickly indeed. We headed over to Saddle Head and after a group roped down scramble of the Saddle, we arrived at the bottom of a route called Fel Gwyr. Max geared up and led the route with me jugging beside him. He built a belay and brought his bother Will and dad up, one at a time. I finished by taking up Sea Mist, with a raging sea below. Keep an eye on this kid, he will go far... Cheers all for a great couple of days.
