Wye Valley and Avon Gorge Rock Climbing Weekend
Last weekend I was working for Rock and Sun in my old old stomping grounds, the Wye Valley and Avon Gorge. I had the company of Charmian and Adrian and they wanted to get an intense two day intro to multi pitch climbing, as they have their eye on a specific route in Hong Kong that was ripe for crushing this coming November.
The first day we headed to Wintour's Leap in the Wye Valley and climbed Right Hand Route, a three pitch HS route on North Wall, covering stance management and climbing in parallel. Then it was on to a stacked retrievable abseil, with a prussic each to safeguard the abseiler down Joe's Route and back to our bags. A bite for lunch later, we started The Agele's Eye, a HVS 5b, 4c,4b, covering stacked lap coils and belay positioning. This lead us back to the to "Joe's Route" abseil. After packing the majority of the gear away we did a super quick roped ascent of the "Easy Way Down" to top us out.
The following day we met at Avon Gorge's Main Wall car park. We started on Central Rib, a three pitch VS and covered more stance management skills. Arriving at an in situ abseil station, we converted to a stacked abseil and descended the crag to the foot of the classic Avon climb Piton Route. Climbing that in two pitches, we abseiled back to our kit and then spent the last part of the course practising unassisted and assisted hoists.
I think you guys have the skills to crush your Hong Kong project, go get it!
