Four day rock climbing course in Pembrokeshire

Today was day one for Nadia on an intensive week of climbing and skills training. Her partner is a very accomplished climber but paid for her to come out for five day's intensive coaching to give her the skills needed for a planned holiday, climbing and new routing in Morocco. We headed to the Penally area to see what was what.

We started by looking at gear and how to build belays. We then moved on to safeguarding a personal abseil and arrived at the bottom of Becks Point. a VS and HVS later we stripped the abseil, packed up and did the two minute walk to the top of Fisherman's Point. Nadia built a bomb proof three point anchor and she blasted down the abseil to the low tide, shingle beach and smooth, sea-washed rock. I followed and we scrambled round to the bottom of Rusty Corner, which we climbed. At the belay we created an anchor for a retrievable abseil back to the beach. Nadia went first down the abseil and I followed again. A quick bash up Rusty Crack and we were back at the in-situ belay. With the tide coming up pretty close we abseiled a second time for one last route. The last route completed, we returned to the sacks and headed back over the cliff top, back to the van.

We covered alot of the basic skills needed for trad climbing today. Where should we go tomorrow?...
