Climbing with the God Father at Range East

On Wednesday night my good friend Phil (and Gethin's god father) came over from Bristol to stay for a couple of days. It was Gethin's first birthday on Friday and we had organised a little gathering. This left Thursday partly free...  

After entertaining Gethin for the morning my mum and dad arrived to take the lead with the wee man and me and Phil jumped in my van and drove down to the Green Bridge area of Range East, on the hunt for some quick fixes. First on the hit list was Toil and Trouble, a two pitch Pat Littlejohn HVS in The Cauldron. An impressive place to climb, with great rock and big walls. We then pegged it to Madman's Point. Another airy abseil later we both stood at the ledge at the start of The Mad Hatter's Tea Party, a two pitch E1. The first pitch had fantastic climbing through a wonderfully featured, juggy groove to a large belay ledge. The second pitch heads off left round the arete, to climb a hidden wall on lovely limestone flutings.  Both feeling very happy with ourselves, we headed to the St. Govan's Inn for a quick beer before getting home to put Gethin to bed, a night before his first birthday.
