Another sunny couple of days out

My old mate Dave T came to stay on Monday night and with a couple of days free, he was keen to get up some rock. We headed to Mowingword East face on Tuesday to catch some morning sun. It was a beautiful day by the sea and we climbed some great routes on some of the most grippy limestone I think I have ever climbed on! After 6 pitches we wondered back over Barafundle Bay and back to the van and back home.

Day two, with limited time and the ranges closed for exercises we headed across Broad Haven Beach and went in search of a lovely looking two pitch traverse named Dragon Slayer. When we eventually found the abseil spot and abseiled in, we discovered that the route (that heads off left under a line of steep roofs) was sopping wet and not looking very inviting. We climbed a easy pitch to get back out and then booted it to Mowingword West face, where we climbed Blowing in the Wind. Great rock at Mowingword. We bimbled back over the beach, dumped bags in the van and went to look at a different bit of the cliffs near the car park. We found a brilliant 150-200m sea level traverse that starts opposite the bay from the MOD sentry box just South of the Board Haven car park. Go and check it out!
