Back climbing in Avon Gorge

On Sunday I met up with "Avon guru" Martin, in hope of finding some dry rock after a few days of very wet weather. Avon came up trumps and we jumped straight on Grand Central Station, a direct line up Central Buttress at E2 5b, 5c. A lovely route with reasonable protection where you need it. Martin then geared up and set off on Troillus Direct, another E2 5c on the left side of Main Wall. When he was nearing the top, below a bulge, he shouted down "This is E3 for sure!" before yarding on an undercut and launching up onto the delicate climbing above to the belay. The undercut turned out to be a wobbly little flake, that looked like it wanted to move home soon. After (just) completing the finishing hard moves, we abseiled back to the base of Troillus with enough time for one last route. I had seconded The Beard of Ffeog Nosam before, so jumped on that as it had been a couple of years ago. Another really nice route.
